FAQ
I’ve noticed condensation inside my windows lately. What can I do to fix the problem?
You should focus on the humidity level in your home and proper ventilation of the rooms. During winter, indoor humidity should be between 25% and 30%, depending on the outside temperature. It is also recommended to remove window screens during the winter and to open blinds, shades, or curtains to allow for better air circulation.
Additionally, if condensation appears between the two panes of a sealed window, it indicates a seal failure. In that case, the defective glass unit will need to be replaced.

What is the potential reduction in ultraviolet (UV) energy transmission with Low-E glass?
The reduction in UV ray transmission depends on the type of Low-E coating used and the construction of the insulating glass unit (glass thickness, glass type, etc.).

What causes thermal breakage?
Glass expands when heated. The frame holding the insulating glass unit blocks thermal radiation from the sun or from inside the house. As a result, the center of the glass becomes warmer than the edges. This temperature difference causes greater expansion at the center than at the edges, creating stress within the glass.
Normally, glass can withstand this stress, but in some specific cases, thermal breakage may occur. In such instances, the quality of the insulating glass unit’s manufacturing is not to be blamed.
What causes thermal breakage?
Thermal breakage occurs due to stress caused by a temperature difference between two areas of the same glass pane. This variation can happen, for example, when part of the glass is exposed to direct sunlight while another part remains shaded.
What is the best way to get an estimate for my construction or renovation project?
You can visit a Solaris store (in Québec, Brossard, Boisbriand, or Gatineau), contact us by phone, or email us.
Afterward, an advisor will schedule an appointment with you at our offices to provide advice and give you a free estimate.
How to take approximate measurements for an estimate?
We suggest measuring the doors and windows by taking the measurement inside the interior frames. A helpful detail for Solaris is knowing if your doors and windows have exterior trim (molding) around the perimeter of the window, as well as the depth (from the outside to the inside).
What are the delivery timelines to expect?
Delivery timelines are established at the time of the order, based on the regions and pre-set delivery schedules. We can expedite the delivery of doors and windows upon request, if our production capacity allows.
Is it better to install new windows within the existing frames?
No, it is better not to install new windows into the old frames. This method will reduce the size of your new window, and the insulation between the old frame and the house structure will not be controlled. Additionally, it will require aluminum cladding to cover the old frames, increasing the risk of water infiltration.
Will I notice a difference in the amount of light between my clear windows and my new Low-E windows?
You will notice a slight reduction in light intensity compared to your old windows. However, most people primarily notice an increase in comfort. Insulating glass with Sungate™ 400 transmits approximately 13% less visible light than the same clear glass and 10% less solar heat gain.
