FAQ

I’ve noticed that there has been condensation on my windows lately. What can I do to fix the problem?

The focus should be on the ambient humidity levels and the ventilation of the rooms. During winter, the indoor humidity level should range between 25% and 30%, depending on the outdoor temperature. It is also recommended to remove the screens in winter and open the blinds, shades, or curtains to allow for proper air circulation. Furthermore, if condensation appears between the two panes of a sealed window, this indicates a seal failure. The faulty glass will need to be replaced.

What is the potential reduction in ultraviolet (UV) energy transmission with Low-E glass?

The reduction in UV ray transmission depends on the type of Low-E coating used and the construction of the insulating glass (glass thickness, type of glass, etc.).

Contact us so we can provide you with detailed information.

What causes thermal breakage of the glass?

Glass expands when heated. The frame that holds the insulating glass blocks the thermal radiation from the sun or from inside the house. For this reason, the center of the glass is warmer than the edges. This temperature difference causes more expansion at the center than at the edges of the glass, creating tensile stress. Normally, the glass can withstand these stresses, but there may be instances where the glass breaks due to specific conditions. In such cases, the quality of the insulating glass manufacturing cannot be blamed.

What causes thermal breakage?

Thermal breakage occurs due to stresses generated by temperature variations between two areas of the same glass pane. This variation can, for example, occur between a part of the glass exposed to sunlight and a shaded area.

What is the best way to get a quote for my construction or renovation project?

You can visit a Solaris store (Quebec, Brossard, Boisbriand, and Gatineau), contact us by phone, or email us.

Afterward, an advisor will schedule an appointment with you at our office to provide advice and give you a free estimate.

How to take approximate measurements for an estimate?

We recommend measuring the doors and windows by taking the measurement from the inside of your interior frames. A useful detail for Solaris is knowing if your doors and windows have trim (moulding) on the outside around the perimeter of the window, as well as the depth (from the outside to the inside).

What are the expected delivery times?

Delivery times are established at the time of the order, based on regions and pre-scheduled delivery times. We can provide expedited delivery of doors and windows upon request, if our production capacities allow it.

Is it better to install new windows within the existing frames?

No, it is better not to install the new windows within the old frames. This technique will reduce the size of your new window, and the insulation between the old frame and the house structure will not be controlled. Additionally, it will require aluminum covering to hide the old frames, and the risk of water infiltration will increase.

Will I notice a difference in the amount of light between my clear windows and my new Low-E windows?

You will notice a slight reduction in light intensity compared to your old windows. However, most people mainly notice an increase in comfort. An insulating glass made with SungateMD 400 transmits approximately 13% less visible light than the same clear glass and 10% less solar gain.
